ARTS RESIDENCY, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT • SIMs (Structured Improvisation Models) are arts integrated residencies designed and developed by Christopher Eaves to help students better understand history by inhabiting it with characters and families they themselves create. Students get to live history from the inside out! SIMs are integrated into and support sociohistorical curriculum and provide students with a dramatic exploration of paradigm shifts in culture and social order.
SIMs are also available as professional development for educators—where educators are trained in methodology for directing individual and group improvisation. While this may sound contrary to the nature of improvisation, a student's ability to freely improvise often grows stronger when direction elicits an awareness of the many choices available to them.

FAQ: What is it? A theatre arts residency integrated into a sociohistorical curriculum. Which curriculum? Ellis Island Immigration, American Revolutionary War, The Civil War, The Industrial Revolution, First Nations...you name it! Does everyone participate? Yes, each student will have opportunities to collaborate, improvise and perform. Do we need to find a special space? No. SIMs work well in typical classroom settings. How long is a SIMs residency? We could squeeze it into 8 sessions. 15 would really do the trick! [#literacy #socialstudies #humanities]

KEYNOTE ADDRESS, ARTS RESIDENCY, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT • With The Art of Questions, Eaves provides a framework for educators, administrators and teaching artists to explore the integral role inquiry plays in scientific method, artistic process, development of critical thinking and cultivation of curiosity. Sometimes poignant and other times hilarious, The Art of Questions explores the nature of inquiry, its place in education and art, and the manner by which educators and teaching artists may not only affirm and strengthen student inquiry but also learn well from the questions that we are being asked.
Are we asking the right questions? Are we listening for multiple answers? Are we listening for the questions were not looking for? What is the most important question that a student has ever asked you and why? Have you heard about 'No Questions Day'? |
|
After presenting The Arts of Questions as a Keynote Address and Professional Development, Eaves developed The Art of Questions arts residency during which students are challenged to artfully respond to their own higher order thinking questions. And at the end of the initial residency 76% of students reported having more questions than when the residency began while 98% reported that the residency had strengthened their ability to answer questions.
The Art of Questions is available as a keynote address, a professional development and as an arts residency.
